Lampara Cesta Mila: The Perfect Blend of Traditional Craftsmanship and Contemporary Design

Lampara Cesta Mila is a beautifully crafted lamp that combines traditional techniques with modern design. Created by the Spanish design studio Santa & Cole, the lamp is an elegant and functional piece that adds warmth and character to any room.

The Story Behind Lampara Cesta Mila

The Lampara Cesta Mila was inspired by a basket made by the Catalan craftswoman Mila Peyroné. Peyroné’s work was admired by the famous architect and designer, Antoni Gaudí, who commissioned her to make baskets for Park Güell, one of his most famous works. The basket that inspired Lampara Cesta Mila was originally created to hold flowers, but Santa & Cole saw its potential as a lampshade.

Santa & Cole collaborated with Pep Sant, a skilled artisan, to create the Lampara Cesta Mila. The lampshade is made using a traditional technique known as “pleita,” which involves weaving rush reeds into a spiral pattern. Sant takes great care in selecting the reeds and weaving them together to create a unique and stunning piece.

The Design

The Lampara Cesta Mila has a simple and elegant design that makes it a timeless piece. The lampshade is suspended from a delicate metal structure that adds to its overall charm. The lamp emits a soft and warm light that creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

The lamp comes in two sizes, and its versatility allows it to be used in a variety of settings. It works well as a bedside lamp, a reading lamp in the living room, or as a centerpiece in a dining room.

The Impact

Lampara Cesta Mila is not just a beautiful piece of design; it also has a positive social and environmental impact. The use of traditional techniques helps to preserve traditional crafts and support local artisans. In addition, the rush reeds used to create the lampshade are sustainably harvested, making it an eco-friendly choice.

The Lampara Cesta Mila has received numerous awards for its design and heritage value. It was awarded the ADI-FAD Delta de Oro award in 2003 and was included in the Spanish Design Museum’s permanent collection.

The Lampara Cesta Mila is a beautiful and unique lamp that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Its simplicity and elegance make it a timeless piece that can be used in a variety of settings. Santa & Cole’s collaboration with Pep Sant has resulted in a beautiful and functional piece that also has a positive social and environmental impact. The Lampara Cesta Mila is a true example of how design can both preserve tradition and promote sustainability.
