Are you feeling bored with the same old lamps in your home? Why not try making your own? DIY resin lamps are a great way to add some personal touch and creativity to your home lighting. In this article, we will guide you through the process of making your own DIY resin lamp from scratch.
Before we start, let’s take a look at the materials needed to make a DIY resin lamp.
- Resin – clear casting resin
- Pigment – liquid pigment dye or powdered mica powder
- Wood plank or any other material as the base of the lamp
- Lamp kit – Includes a light bulb socket and cord, switch, and plug
- Wood glue – to secure the wooden plank
- Saw – to cut the wooden plank to size
- Sandpaper – to smooth out the edges of the wooden plank
- Heat gun or torch – to remove any air bubbles from the resin
- Mask and gloves – for safety precautions
Step 1: Prepare the Base
Start by preparing the base of your lamp. Cut the wooden plank to the desired size using a saw. Sandpaper the edges to make it smooth. Apply wood glue and secure the wooden plank to the table.
Step 2: Mix the Resin
Mix the clear casting resin per manufacturer’s instructions. Stir the resin thoroughly for at least 3 minutes.
Step 3: Add Color
Add pigment to the resin. You can choose from a variety of colors, including liquid pigment dye or powdered mica powder. Mix the color thoroughly.
Step 4: Pour the Resin
Slowly pour the colored resin onto the wooden base, spreading it out evenly. Remove any air bubbles using a heat gun or torch. Wait for the resin to cure and dry before proceeding to the next step.
Step 5: Attach the Lamp Kit
Attach the lamp kit to the wooden base. Thread the cord through the center of the wooden base. Screw the light bulb socket in place. Add the switch and plug.
Step 6: Enjoy Your Lamp
Turn on your DIY resin lamp and enjoy the beautiful colors and unique design.
